President Lincoln’s Cottage

Our Experience: Four Stars

We see Abraham Lincoln almost every day thanks to the penny, but we never thought we would see his house!

Per the recommendation of our friends, we took up a tour.

This quiet cottage is tucked away only 3 miles from the White House. It isn’t metro-accessible, but there is free parking on site.

Half of the site is devoted to the museum and cottage, while the other half is dedicated to hundreds of Veterans. The Veteran housing started back when President Lincoln was there–for those injured during the Civil War.

Inside are many of the original housing pieces (staircase, floorboards, walls). The cottage tour is only 1 hr, so you’ll have plenty of time to drive over to the National Arboretum.

This is a great place to go if you want to do something educational and quick–or if your significant other is a history geek, but you do not have the patience for a full day at a museum.

P.s. You get a prize at the end for completing the tour. We won’t disclose what it is or its retail value.
