Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center | National Air and Space Museum

Location: 14390 Air & Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly, Virginia 20151
Our Experience: Four and Half Stars

Save yourself some time and metro-ing effort to visit the well loved Air and Space museum from DC in Chantilly.

Admission is free and parking is $15.

TIPParking is free after 4pm, and the museum closes at 5:30. If you arrive a tad after 4, you’ll be able to see the whole museum. Just don’t read every poster and take too many bathroom breaks 😉

There are hundreds of planes from different countries and time periods in a hangar. Inside  the building there are simulators if you want to feel what it would be like to fly a combat plane, fighter jet, or space shuttle.

There is an observatory tower, which provides views of Leesburg, Chantilly, and Fairfax. The view from up high also is a great spot to see the planes land and take off from Dulles Airport.

This is a great spot for a date–a mix of history, cool model planes, and lots of walking around to let conversation take off. It would also make a great trip with the family or an exciting field trip (for all the teachers reading this!)
